Trip Leaders for LEAPYEAR & One Revolution Groups

Guide 17-21 year olds through the first semester of a transformative year of college.

  • 3 months in India
  • 3 months in South America

or:

  • One Revolution - leaders in Guatemala, India & Africa

 

We are looking for people with the following qualifications:

  1. Minimum age of 25. (Not negotiable.)
  2. Experience leading groups.
  3. Experience coaching youth through personal and spiritual crisis.
  4. Experience working with teens and young adults.
  5. Work, study or travel in the relevant geographic region.
  6. Proficiency in Spanish for the South America position.
  7. A basic knowledge of Hinduism and Buddhism for the India position.
  8. Experience with a spiritual practice and ongoing commitment to personal evolution.
  9. Certificates in adult CPR and Wilderness First Aid prior to training.

If you are interested in being considered for a Trip Leader opening, please download the Leader Application Packet per the instructions at the bottom of this page.  Please note that we are unable to hire anyone under the age of 25, or anyone who does not have experience in the relevant region, or with leading groups, or that we can't meet in person (regardless of qualifications).  Spanish language proficiency is required to lead our groups in Central America.  We are generally unable to hire non-US citizens.

Our Leader positions pay all (non-personal) trip expenses and medical insurance for the duration of the program and start at $2500 per three-month semester. LEAPYEAR leader positions require a high degree of experience and maturity. We also pay a travel stipend to our leaders to get to/from our retreat center in August of each year for our comprehensive and intensive 10+day leader training.

LEAPYEAR groups run during the Fall semester (August to November), while One Revolution runs both fall and spring.

Positions at LEAPNOW Office

Please also note that housing and food are provided with most positions - allowing LEAPNOW staff to save money aggressively while working and living at our rural campus.

International Program Coordinator

The primary responsibilities of the International Program Coordinator are the design, coordination and management of our international group programs – both the One Revolution program and the LEAPYEAR program.
 

PRIMARY DUTIES:

o        Plan and implement group travel programs in each of the international regions that we visit. 

o        Coordinate with program sponsors in each program location regarding costs, food and living arrangements, health and safety requirements, and transportation needs. 

o        Market our programs and leadership positions to appropriate target audiences – through direct outreach, mail, and Internet.

o        Recruit, interview and hire group leaders

o        Set up and coordinate the implementation of leader trainings

o        Budget – assist with the creation of each program budget

-         track program expenses

-         advise the Director of Int’l Programs on budgetary matters related to the running of group programs

o        Deal with logistical and personal issues that arise while programs are in the field.  Counsel leaders and give support while they are dealing with crises and problems.   Work with parents to deal with logistical and disciplinary issues that arise during a program. 

o        Carry emergency cell phone (in rotation with other staff) while programs are in the field.

SECONDARY DUTIES:

o        Coordinate with Office Manager to track enrollment and the flow of required paperwork for each program

o        Communicate with parents of potential and current students

o        Assist as needed with the running of LEAPYEAR retreats, and all of the activities associated with running a residential retreat center.   Assist with manual work, transportation of students, kitchen work, etc.  

o        Serve as a positive role model for 17-25 year old students during retreat sessions

o        Work smoothly with the rest of the LEAPNOW management team

o        Clerical work as needed within the running of the international programs:  mail, phones, filing, ordering supplies, light bookkeeping and accounting.

o        Run the office in the absence of other LEAPNOW staff

o        Assist Exec. Director in interviewing students in person and by phone.

o        Supervise and direct the work of LEAPNOW interns and administrative support staff. 

 

  1. Supervised by:  Executive Director.  Also reports as appropriate to other members of the core management team:  Assistant Director and Dir. Of Education. 
  2. Trial Period: The position will start after Thanksgiving in 2008.  There will be a trial period of one month, ending on December 31, 2008.   During this trial month, either party may end this agreement without cause.   This is to insure that the position is a good fit for both the Employer and Employee.
  3. Hours of Work: Salaried (exempt) employees are expected to work the hours needed each week to fulfill their job requirements with a minimum of 35 hours per week.   LEAPNOW employees staff the office from 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Thursday.  The office is staffed by one employee on a rotating basis from 9 AM through 3 PM on Fridays.   During leadership training periods and LEAPYEAR residential retreats employees work more hours and time off is set up by coordinating among our staff.  During retreat times, employees average one day off per week.
  4. Salary:   $25,000 per year – or more based on experience.   Position & salary to be reviewed annually.  
  5. Other Benefits:
    • Housing:  On campus housing is provided throughout the year  (valued in Sonoma County at approx. $12,000 per year)
    • Food:  Employees are provided with food service at no cost during retreat periods.  During non-retreat times Employees have full access to the retreat center kitchen facility.   (value in Sonoma County = approx. $1,500 per year)
    • Health Insurance:  Health insurance is provided to all core staff through Kaiser Permanente after 90-days.  
    • Vacation:  In the first year of employment, LEAPNOW employees receive 2 weeks of paid vacation.  Vacation time must be coordinated with other staff to ensure office coverage.  In year 2 and beyond, LEAPNOW employees receive 3 weeks paid vacation.
    • Utilities are paid by LEAPNOW (value = ~$600 per year).
  6. Requirements:  LEAPNOW expects Employee to reside on campus at the Maacama retreat center, and provide for his/her own transportation.   LEAPNOW expects Employee to participate fully in the running of the business, and work with co-workers in a way that fosters harmony, productivity, and growth – both personal growth and growth of the business.
